The Relm of Fact: June 26, 2009

A day remembered by those who stood up to the tyranny of a radical authoritarian president. Although the erosion of democracy by the executive branch in Honduras started well before this date, this is the culminating period where the radicalized crossed the line. In an attempt to silence any opposition the extremist mob attacked a group of supporters of the constitution. A group of students that felt it was time to stand up and voice there patriotism in an attempt to save there rights...there constitution.

On this date an ingenious group of students went to the streets of downtown Tegucigalpa, voicing there discontent to an unfavorable move by president Manuel Zelaya to install a "4ta Urna", an illegal attempt to dissolve the constitution. Mimicking Zelaya the students walked through the streets wearing scuba gear a mustache and a "sobrero". As they walked through the streets expressing there views of discontent onlookers started to gather, vehicles passed with passengers sticking there hands out showing a thumbs up and honking the vehicles horn in support, almost a festive state as if it was the start of a carnival

At this point a group of discontent plebeians in servitude of the "4ta urna" witnessed the students. This group very irritated by the students started to head towards them. The mob Wearing shirts that read "4ta urna path towards democracy" started to beat on the students as bystanders fled they continuously beat the students until the police arrived. Once the police arrived and rescued the students they were assisted by doctors and many denounced the hostile actions taken by the rabid mob. These actions were denounced to the commission of human rights in Honduras (CODEH).
What does democracy include?
Equality and Freedom : Principles reflected in all citizens being equal before the law. Those freedoms are secured by legitimized rights and liberties which are generally protected by a constitution. When a majority voices itself in defense of there constitution , they are in essence defending democracy. Thus when the elected representatives of the people from congress defended the rights of the people the majority took to the streets to demonstrate there support to the constitutionally elected congress.
